How to choose a bow tie
Self-tie or pre-tied
A self-tie bow tie is one length of fabric that you knot yourself; the bow is a little uneven, which is the point. Every High Cotton bow tie is made that way. If you want it ready to wear, pick the pre-tied option on the product page and we tie it before it goes out. First time tying one? Our seven-step guide to tying a bow tie walks you through it.
Colour
Blues and greens are the quiet choices; pinks and reds carry a wedding or a spring party. Shop by colour: blue bow ties, green bow ties, red bow ties, pink bow ties, black bow ties. The colour filter on the left narrows the grid without leaving the page.
Fabric by season
- Silk bow ties: Italian woven silk, the dressiest fabric we make and the one for evenings, weddings and the holidays; it wears in any month.
- Cotton bow ties: ginghams, madras and prints for spring, game day and anything in daylight.
- Linen bow ties and seersucker: the warm-weather fabrics, for a Southern summer and a seersucker suit.
Occasion
- Wedding: a silk bow tie in the wedding's colour, or a pink or blue print for a daytime ceremony.
- Kentucky Derby: the Derby collection of bow ties and neckties, prints and paisleys made for the first Saturday in May.
- Black tie: a solid black silk bow tie, with a cummerbund and bow tie set if the jacket calls for one.
How our bow ties are made
Each bow tie is cut and sewn by hand in North Carolina. Our silks are woven in Italy. A warm iron brings the bow back if it creases in a suitcase. Prices and fabric details are on every product page.
