Earlier this week the wraps were taken off of a brand new collection from High Cotton. Dubbed Collection Reserve, this is the first group of luxe ties released from the gang down in Carolina, and we’re liking what we see. There are some fantastic ties in the group, but our favorite of the bunch is the Green Velvet Diamond Point.

High Cotton Ties has spent the past few years rearranging the bow tie market. The first brand to really make a name solely on cotton bow ties, the North Carolina team has been pumping out bow after bow. Most of those fall along the casual lines, with fun and bright plaids and ginghams. The new Collection Reserve is a step in a different direction. Designed for the moments in life that call for a touch more formality, the collection debuts just in time for Christmas parties and the many other black tie events of the season. Perhaps my favorite bow from the collection is the Black on Black Velvet Houndstooth Bow Tie.

High Cotton Ties have been a Take the Forty favorite for some time now. In fact, I think every contributing member of this blog owns a cotton bow tie from High Cotton Ties. Hand-cut and hand-sewn in North Carolina, High Cotton Ties make some of the finest cotton bow ties that are available today. They do so in a manner that I find imperative when I am adding to my bow tie collection, and that is by avoiding trends and staying true to Southern roots. They stick to the classic standards in both design and patterns. In a menswear world that is being increasingly invaded by gaudy novelties, it is refreshing for a company like High Cotton Ties that stays true to its heritage. The big news for High Cotton Ties is the impending launch of a new line of formal wear, Collection Reserve.

Recently Judy Hill was given a unique opportunity to produce a cotton T-shirt with the lowest carbon footprint. This launched a new campaign and effort that they call From Dirt to Shirt. The average T-shirt travels 17,000 miles during production, while High Cotton’s T-shirt travels only 750 miles from the beginning stages of growing the cotton to the finished product. North Carolina is the third largest producer of cotton in the United States and 50% of that crop is exported annually to produce items that are then imported. Judy was also lucky enough to acquire a prize in this past year’s harvest, the first 100% organic cotton crop known in North Carolina’s agricultural history which they will use to create an organic polo. Judy says, “Cotton is staple in Southern history and it is a blessing to get an opportunity to make such an inspiring product that creates so much change.” James says, “The ultimate goal is to bring the cotton back to the south. Not just to grow it, but also to weave it and produce quality American-made clothing with it.”

So far we've got Made in America, handcrafted, and excellent, personal customer service, but in case you needed a little more - they believe that bow ties should make their way back into the gentleman's everyday wardrobe just like I do. What this means is that their ties aren't gaudy or over the top, but are more refined, quiet yet classy you might say. I like the idea that a bow tie can be worn and not beg for attention but just sit quietly and add a little to the ensemble instead of being the main point, if that makes sense.
